The Accords Betrayed

Forces within East forge seek to undermine the Hammerfriend Accords.

In the fall of year 31, the human King Eric Ravennian made an official visit to Eastforge. High King Gorrum worked hard to present a unified face to their new ally and in doing so antagonized the dwarves opposed to the Accords. These dwarves were led by Clan Thelgar, a large but less skilled family of Iron workers, and their thane, the charismatic Harrok.
    Harrok Thelgar had been pushing for an expansionist war for some time, feeling that a mobilization of the dwarven might would not only increase demand for his own goods but reduce the population of the Kingdom and help release pressures.
    So during King Eric’s visit, followers of Harrok’s rhetoric sabotaged a mining tunnel and caused a cave in which killed the human king as well as several thanes who were vocal supporters of the Accords.
    To prevent war, High King Gorrum declared the cave in an accident and paid a huge wergild to the family of the human king. Immediately, he launched an investigation to determine the identities of the saboteurs. His guard found those who were responsible, but no direct link to Harrok Thelgar could be found.
