A plate for the Court.
The people of the Causis Isles live in unusually close proximity to the Faen Court, with some families living within their claimed forests. The dangers of mixing with fae as well known to the islanders, stories of lost children and terrible ends long pervade the midnight stories of Causites around the fire, and the War of Summer and Winter has not been forgotten. But the King's Concord eased a lot of tensions between the fae folk, and the mortal folk, and Causites observe several customs to keep their local fae and the Court content. One of these, is setting a plate for the Court at mealtimes, and during special meals, more than a plate.
History
There was a lot of tension between the newly landed Faen Court, and the Causis Islanders during the early years of the Age of Awakening. A lack oo understanding, and mutual land claims brought war and animosity, a war the Islanders were ill prepared for. Many Causites fled their home islands, and clan leaders fought viciously to maintain their ancestral lands. Some ousted clans fled to Ghenna, where they begged assistance from Vaernas of the Valley. Eventually, the Ghennan military moved to assist, and pushed the Court back. Frequent conflict still arose between Fae and mortal, and Ghenna took over control of the Isles, putting Ghennan nobles in control of ancestral land, and allowing the clan leaders to rule as governers.
This remained until Red-Eye's Rebellion, when the Causite rebels lended aid to Erick Spire, in exchange for promised independence. This promise was kept and upon the onset of the Age of Silence, the Causis Isles were free to rule themselves. Its first ruler, the aptly named Sera King, then entered into tepid negotiations with the assistance of Erick Spire. The Faen Court and the mortals came to an agreement, some land released to the Faen court, and efforts made to educate the general populous on Faen customs, tendancies, and ways to reduce and interact with the Faen Court. One of the methods of endearment to the Court was the ritual of leaving a plate.
Execution
This is very simple. During mealtimes, a plate is set outside as an welcome to local Faen with what food, if any, can be spared. Sweets are preferred, but any will do, as simple as a single fruit. At the end of mealtime, if the food is still there, it can be taken back.
During feasts at season changes, a full plate is expected to be put out for the Faen, as these points of the year are sacred to the Court. This plate should not be taken back at the end of mealtime, only returned once it is empty.
