Cormelgo di Verpauroit

His excellency the Esteemed Chancellor Cormelgo di Verpauroit of Montelquillain, as denotes his rather pompous official title, is a nobleman whose aristocratic family hails from the eponymous region of Montequillain, a seaside earldom in the island nation of Reguellaime.
The Verpauroit family have been prominently involved in the realm's politics for centuries, either in elected or in appointed positions. Most of the family members who sought careers as politicians were characterised by an inherent diplomatic and conciliatory aptitude, along with mild, pleasant manners. As such, they were often appointed ambassadors of Reguellaime in other realms, official messengers sent to foreign courts, or mediators in forming treaties and forging alliances. Their endeavours made the house of Verparoit immensely wealthy and gave them a significant amount of prestige and influence, both within and outside Reguellaime.
Adhering to his family's established tradition, Cormelgo became interested in politics from a very young age. As soon as he reached adulthood, he moved from his father's countryside estate to the resplendent city of Reguellaime, in order to study at its renowned university. After the completion of his studies nearly a decade later, he sought a position at the administrative department of the Ermothine Sea Coalition. Thanks to his numerous connections, his friendly demeanour and his natural charm, he quickly rose through the ranks and withing a mere decade he was appointed Minister of External Affairs of the Coalition. Though his personal ambitions were the primary driving force behind his political success, his Excellency nonetheless has served the Coalition's best interests faithfully and diligently.
Cormelgo possesses a friendly and approachable demeanour, even towards those who are considered to belong to a far lower class in Reguellaime's elitist social ladder, which, coupled with his expressive, unaffected manners and self-deprecating humor, generally make him well-liked in both noble and common circles alike, at least at the beginning of one making his acquaintance. One fault for which he is often criticised is the sense of hyperbole which permeates his speech, and in particular his proclivity for boisterous rhetorics and enthusiastic remarks even for the most mundane of subjects.
At the beginning of our campaign, the esteemed chancellor has employed our intrepid heroes under slightly peculiar circumstances and has assigned them two main objectives, hoping that they will succeed where others before them had failed. He has tasked them with conducting an investigation in the untamed inland regions of Valthassòra, where an expedition of settlers recently went missing, as well as discovering and retrieving a valuable item on behalf of the Ermothine Sea Coalition.
