Melda Atar World of Lost Magic

Melda Atar translates to "sky world" in the Mystici language. "Melda" also means "five" or "fifth", so some scholars believe that there may have been four other worlds in the same place before the current one. These theoretical other worlds may or may not be linked to the disappearance of magic in Melda Atar today.   Magic used to be common in this world, but thanks to an event that has become known as The Severing, has dwindled almost to nothing. Some few people are still able to wield magic, but nothing like the numbers that used to do so. Now most people use steam in its place, and some are even experimenting with electricity. The disappearance of magic is a mystery, even to dedicated magical scholars, whose theories for the change vary wildly.
