The Culling of the Wilds

In the days before the ruling of Engelia, when mankind lived in tribes and secluded towns, the wilds were much more dangerous and filled with life, of all sorts. The Gröni ruled many portions of the land, less sapient creatures would have their own settlements, such as the ogres, trolls and alike, spirits of nature would wander in the woods and dryads were often found in every forest.
When men decided that everything that lived outside their fortresses and villages was foul and dangerous, it marks the beginning of an event that lasted for several centuries, known today only as "The Culling of the Wilds". As the tribes expanded and men got braver, they started to kill and purge everything and everyone. The larger gröni were almost driven extinct whilst the smaller ones got forced to live underground. Forests became dark and corrupted as dryads were killed and slowly mankind reigned supreme over every piece of land.
It is said that, it was during this time that the Cursed Ones arose in the world, as mankind did not differentiate the good and the bad as the culling happened, and so, vampires, werewolves and all other cursed creatures came to be.
