Charles Royce, born into the esteemed House Royce of the Vale, emerged as a formidable figure in Westerosi history, particularly noted for his role during the tumultuous period known as the Century of Blood. Grandson to the revered Yorwyck VI Royce, Charles ascended to the title of the Bronze King, a testament to his house's ancient lineage and its enduring legacy, just shy of his sixteenth nameday. His rise to power was marked by a landscape fraught with internal strife as the Vale was besieged by petty rivalries and incessant infighting among its noble houses.
Charles, even in the springtime of his youth, was not only a fearsome warrior but also a leader of cunning wit and charming presence. One of the most legendary feats attributed to Charles was his confrontation with Qyle Corbray, the then-King of the Fingers. In a display of martial prowess that would be recounted through the ages, Charles, known as Robar in some tales, managed to disarm Corbray of the famed Valyrian steel sword, Lady Forlorn, before delivering the killing blow.
