Lys, as well as the other cities, take their pride in calling themselves Republics, but social classes are something you can rarely escape if not by falling down. The rise of the young Dinand within the Rogare Bank sounds even more surprising if one pictures that our man began from the lowliest origins, as a Bakkalon foundling.   Also known as the Pale Child, Bakkalon is the Essosi god of military prowess, mostly worshiped by soldiers and protected by the Steel Angels military order.   It is customary for the devoted to Bakkalon to rescue the orphans they may find during their campaigns for them to be raised within a temple of the Pale Child, as a future warrior, and in most cases, as a warrior chaplain accompanying an Essosi mercenary band.   The life of Dinand took an extraordinary turn when his company was ambushed and slaughtered in one of the endless skirmishes in the Disputed Lands.   Lotho Rogare, who had paid for their service, demanded the only survivor, the young Dinand, as compensation for their failure.   In a short time, the young man, being able to read and count quite efficiently, and used to be under heavy discipline, became an indispensable help to Lotho, him being quite uninterested in the bank his father entrusted him.   As of now, Lotho delegates all his duties to the man, to dedicate himself to his less wordly businesses. Some say now that the real man behind the Bank is not a Rogare anymore, although some say that Lotho has managed to ensure Dinand's loyalty in some special, secret way, prohibited to most men.
