House Rowan of Goldengrove is an ancient and noble family in the Reach, renowned for their wisdom, chivalry, and loyalty. However, they have never hesitated to take up arms to defend their lands and honor.
During the chaotic period following Queen Visenya Targaryen's death, House Rowan supported Vaegon Targaryen's claim to the Iron Throne, opposing Otho Bracken's bid for kingship. Despite their valor, the Rowans suffered significant defeats in the War of Summer, particularly against Otho's forces and House Fossoway. Eventually, they were forced to bend the knee to Otho Bracken.
As punishment for their loyalty to Vaegon, House Rowan was stripped of several major keeps in the Reach, weakening their influence. Though diminished, they remain steadfast, with their loyalty to Otho Bracken now rooted in necessity rather than genuine allegiance.
