House Velaryon
House Velaryon of Driftmark is one of the oldest and most storied houses in Westeros, with ancestral ties that trace back to the Valyrian Freehold, much like the Targaryens. Their sigil is a seahorse, and they are known for their seafaring prowess, commanding one of the largest and most powerful fleets in the Seven Kingdoms. The Velaryons have historically been close allies and staunch supporters of the Targaryens, often intermarrying with them, which has sometimes brought them into the political forefront of the realm.
The Velaryons originally hailed from the Valyrian peninsula and, like the Targaryens, settled on the island of Driftmark in Blackwater Bay before the Doom of Valyria.
The Velaryons' Valyrian blood and maritime dominance made them indispensable as naval commanders and traders, amassing great wealth through maritime trade and exploration.
Throughout the tumultuous history of the Seven Kingdoms, House Velaryon has been known for its loyalty, naval expertise, and the significant role it has played in the politics of the realm, particularly during the Targaryen civil war known as the Dance of the Dragons. Despite the ups and downs of their fortunes, the Velaryons have remained an influential force in Westeros, their legacy enduring through their contributions to the realm's history and their continued involvement in its political machinations.
