Mother's Mercy

Crafted in the fiery forges of Valyria, this blade's name was originally called, in the ancient Valyrian tongue, and roughly translated to "Death to Those Below Me." However, its name and significance would transform over time, intertwined with the history of House Ashford.   Legend has it that during a pivotal conflict with a kingdom of First Men, House Ashford emerged victorious. Instead of condemning the defeated leader to death, House Ashford showed mercy. They offered him a choice: either face execution or join them and convert to the Faith of the Seven. The leader chose the latter, embracing the faith and becoming a steadfast ally of House Ashford.   This act of mercy, coupled with the conversion of the once-enemy leader, reshaped the destiny of the sword. It became known as "Mother's Mercy," symbolizing both the mercy shown by House Ashford and the transformative power of redemption and forgiveness. As the sword passed through generations of Ashford rulers, its name became a reminder of the house's values and the pivotal moment that defined their history. Despite its ominous Valyrian origins, "Mother's Mercy" came to embody the benevolent spirit and guiding principles of House Ashford.
