Robert Tarly

King of the Mander and the Reach Robert Tarly (a.k.a. Tarly the Prideful)

Bio

Robert Tarly, born in the year 344 AC into the turbulent aftermath of the Mad King Samwell's reign, inherited a legacy of deep-seated enmity towards the Targaryen dynasty. The destruction wrought by the Mad King upon the Reach left indelible scars, shaping Robert's worldview and fueling a lifelong aversion to the House Targaryen. Raised in the shadow of his father, Jason Tarly, Robert was immersed in the relentless efforts to restore order to a fractured realm. Jason, who had ascended to the title of King of Horn Hill, embarked on a bold campaign that extended into the dunes of Dorne, culminating in the infamous burning of the Spice Markets. His subsequent disappearance with his army in the desert sands marked a pivotal moment in Robert's life, thrusting him into kingship at a young age.   Ascending to the throne in a period marked by the Century of Blood, Robert Tarly was faced with the daunting task of uniting a realm riven by conflict and disorder. Unlike his forebears, Robert's reign was characterized by a commitment to justice and the welfare of the smallfolk. His efforts to mitigate the hardships faced by his subjects earned him the reputation of a just and compassionate ruler. However, the specter of Targaryen ambition loomed large over his rule.   When news of Aegor Targaryen's invasion reached Robert, it ignited a resolve to defend the sovereignty of the Reach against what he perceived as the return of a long-standing nemesis. The memory of the devastation caused by the Mad King Samwell, coupled with his familial legacy of resistance against the Targaryens, compelled Robert to fortify his position and prepare for the inevitable confrontation.   The siege of Horn Hill emerged as the ultimate test of Robert Tarly's kingship. For nearly three months, his forces withstood the relentless assault led by Aegor's army, a testament to Robert's strategic acumen and the loyalty he inspired among his men. The breach of Horn Hill's formidable defenses marked a turning point, not just in the battle, but in the history of the Reach. Lord Mason Oakheart's fatal charge and the ensuing chaos of battle underscored the ferocity of the conflict.   In the end, Robert Tarly met his demise at the hands of Lord Henry Webber in a poignant moment of single combat. His death symbolized the fall of a steadfast defender of the Reach, a king who, despite the odds, sought to uphold the dignity and independence of his realm against external domination.   Robert Tarly's legacy is a complex tapestry of valor, resilience, and a profound sense of duty towards his people. His reign, though ultimately concluded by the swords of invaders, remains a poignant chapter in the annals of the Reach, a reminder of the enduring spirit of resistance against the encroachments of power.
