Rodrik Glover

Lord Rodrik Glover (a.k.a. Ironfist)

Related Character Bio

Rodrik was born in 381 AC and lived a relatively normal life during most of his childhood. As the 8th son of the previous lord he was not required to hold himself to the same standard that most of his brothers and sisters had to, and he only became skilled in combat because of a love for combat itself as an artform. Because of this he was not as strictly raised, even by Northern standards for nobility, and was not given any formal education for how to lead armies or manage lands. This would prove to be both a blessing and a curse.   As a young man, Rodrik fell in love with a noble woman and poured himself into winning her over. His love was pure and heartfelt rather than superficial or fueled by politics, but schemes and jealously led his cousin Eddard to try and steal her from him and ultimately the woman took her own life. Then during Aegor's Reconquest the Glover family would find itself on the side of House Umber in regards to the war between House Umber and House Stark, and while peace was eventually brokered by Aegor's efforts many of the Glover family either died during the fighting or were executed by House Stark.   Rodrik was spared because of his lack of involvement and recognized as the new Lord Glover, but he didn't know the first thing about being a lord. Even still, he started learning earnestly even if he had to wing it most of the time at first, as the alternative was to die alongside his father and brothers and with the love of his life already taken from him, this was all he had left in life.   Rodrik lost his left hand in the Great War of Northern Aggression fighting on the field alongside his men for House Stark. During the war he made a name for himself as a fierce warrior, and even after losing his hand went on to kill dozens of men before collapsing from blood loss. He was praised for his valor and Lord Stark commissioned a prosthetic hand for him in recognition of his loyalty and sacrifice that day on the battlefield. The fist shaped from castle-forged steel that was later made for him has becoming something of a defining feature, earning him the nickname "Ironfist"   Rodrik is a large and imposing man, not big enough to be monstrous but big enough to be slightly abnormal. He cares little for laws beyond his loyalty to the Starks, nor for lies and deceptions, and cares more for the truth than anything else. He will remain loyal to the ruling family for as long as he is not given reason to do otherwise, but he wouldn't hesitate to turn on them if they proved to be frauds, especially now that he is much older and cares much less about his own life.
