Amputee

Sometimes an unfortunate incident might end up permanently injuring a body part of a person to a point, where the body part becomes more of a hindrance than a benefit, and at those times amputation of the body part might be the safest and most beneficial solution to that person. Being an amputee is often considered a very unfortunate state, and can cause several issues - both obvious and less obvious - to the person that tries to live with their impairment.

Causes

Amputation is usually last moment effort to save a life of an injured person, when a part of their body, usually a single limb, has been injured to a point that they cannot be healed and even might cause a further physical danger for the person in question. Sometimes the amputation might be done to a person with particularly troublesome congenital deformity.

The impaired part of the body is cut away, and the caused wound is treated in the ways available in a given situation. Magic, as well as mundane means, can be used to cut off the body part and treat the wound.

Treatment

Due to the nature of amputation, for most people being an amputee is something they will be for the rest of their lives. They might require tools to compensate for the loss of mobility and have pain relating to their injury, not to mention cosmetic issues. However, people with enough coin or talent to have access to high-level magic might be able to grow themselves new limbs and fix their imperfections by magical means. In recent years, there have also been attempts of building and enchanting prosthetics that can add to a person's quality of life.
