Jesker Cant
Jesker cant is a special code language used by members of the Olbarak to rely confidential messages to one another. Named after its inventor Jesker Inkquill, the code has been expanded upon and can now be used to safely restore and deliver complicated messages with great discretion usually in written but also in verbal form.
Writing System
When written down, Jesker Cant uses dwarven runes for most of the writing, but arcane symbols from draconic and primordial to convey certain concepts, groups of ideas. Single runes of primordial and draconic usually refer to words, but when combined into a series, runes are read as syllables.
Besides letters, numbers also play a key role when combined with measurements or used in certain series, usually looking like dates of years. Sometimes some math is required to actually find out what quantities certain numbers truly indicate, for example, numbers representing years are usually counted together, like year 3752 would actually be 3+7+5+2 = 18.
Syntax
The Jesker Cant uses several dwarvish, primordial and draconic runes and complex arcanist-jargon to form innocent-looking recipes, spell formulas, lists and diagrams that for uninitiated seems rather harmless and utterly boring research material. In actuality, these convey messages about the goings-on around the life of the Olbarak.
Different types of materials tend to be used in specific types of messages. Lists are used to short messages, often ones including orders from superiors, recipes include instructions, formulas tend to be personal letters and diagrams are more often maps or descriptions of locations or patterns, yet some variations may occur. Some users have their own variations for personal notes to fit their own needs.
Due to its very nature, the cant is easy to use in most circumstances under other people's noses, and it tends to sound and look coherent enough to fool the unlearned. However, those trained and skilled arcane arts can after further inspection start to recognise that the creations of the cant are little more than they first appear. However, mere suspicion doesn't make the cant immediately understandable for those unfamiliar with it, and in the halls of Alagh Caurak mages outside of the ranks of Olbarak are rare.
Really interesting. I particularly liked that numbers are important to the cant, just as much as words are.
