Kingdom on the Brink - Session 30
General Summary
The party leaves Strongfare and heads towards Aramore, after 5 days they arrive at a small village. Through various means they find out that the village is a shadow of its former self, People are leaving do to lack of economic means and royal decrees that have raised taxes. Buildings have been boarded up and carts can be seen loaded with personal possessions. Oneiro and Gareth go looking for a shop and find a Dwarf that can cast and hold a spell into a mundane ring, Runsha looks for a tavern and begins chatting with the inn keeper. She tells him about the village, and Runsha asks what the issues are with the village, She's initially hesitant because of his royal lineage but she eventually tells him it's do to the excessive taxation and redistribution of the food supply. Runsha asks if there's anything he could do to help, she thinks for a minute and saw there was a meteor that fell several nights ago, if he could find that it could help the economy of the village. Runsha agrees to help and lets the rest of the party know, Oneiro gets a ring with misty step stored in it and the party sets out into the jungle in search of the meteor. The party finds themselves on a dirt path leading in the general direction of the impact area, when they come across three creatures with multiple heads.
Runsha casts shield of faith on himself and the Chimeras quickly fly over to the party, unleashing two breath attacks on Runsha, though he is mostly untouched due to his shield, his horse on the other hand is sent back to it's home realm. Hendred blesses the party and both Tia and Oneiro spread out and begin to lay down arrow fire, Oneiro uses one of his arcane shots and banishes one of the Chimera. Del Varis moves closer and and begins to engage with darts and Gareth uses his firebolt. As this is going on a creature with 5 heads begins to slowly move up. The Chimera that's still there attempts to hit Runsha but is blocked at every attempt. Tia, Oneiro, and Hendred lay into the Chimera with arrows and a guiding bolt, Then the other Chimera reappears, Del Varis moves up and attempts to Stun one of the Chimera but it resists his attempts. By this time one of the Chimeras have recharged it's breath attack and moves towards Hendred and unleashes it, Hendred is unable to get out of the way. At this time the Chameleon Hydra gets in range and attempts to hit Del Varis but is unsuccessful due to his weaving, but one of its heads is successful in landing a sticky tongue attack and restraining Gareth. Runsha bludgeons one of the Chimera to death and the rest of the party takes out the other Chimera, Del Varis manages to punch through one of the heads of the Hydra, but several seconds later two more appear. Gareth manages to break free and moves to assist Del Varis, The hydra lands a sticky tongue on Hendred which restrains her and attempts to hit both Del Varis and Gareth. Runsha moves to cast Sanctuary on Del Varis, then realizes that it also means Del Varis can't attack either. Hendred breaks the grapple and casts spiritual weapon behind the Hydra, striking true. Oneiro upcasts a magical missile and Tia focuses her volleys on the Hydra, the Hydra attempts to attack Del Varis but is unable to so it focus on Runsha doing minimal damage. Del Varis punches through another head and Gareth slashes at the ribs, shortly thereafter the party kills the Hydra and Hendred goes to heal Gareth. The party harvest parts from the Chimeras and Hydra and Tia scouts from the sky looking for the meteor impact.
The party gets close to the impact site, once they get to the clearing they see a figure, it's the innkeeper flanked by two spider looking creatures (Chelicerae). She says she's glad they made it and it's time to feed. Tia flies over to one of the trees and the two Chelicerae move towards the party, but there is a third Chelicerae that escaped the party's attention and it climbs the tree and claws Tia. Oneiro hexes the innkeeper who has shaped changed into its true form of an abominable beauty and fires a volley, Hendred blesses the party and Runsha casts shield of faith, Hans moves away and begins to fire off eldritch blasts and uses an ability to get a Chelicerae away from Tia. the Abominable beauty moves forward and Gareth and Del Varis engage her, though they didn't touch her they feel an immense heat radiating off her. The Chelicerae move to engage Hendred, Gareth, and Runsha which leads to Hendred getting grappled and Gareth sustaining serious wounds. Tia and Oneiro continue to fire into the fray and the abominable beauty manages to hit Gareth, leaving him nearly unconscious. Hendred remains grappled and decides to use her inflict wounds on the Chelicerae while Hans successfully casts hold monster on the abominable beauty. Runsha moves in and finishes off the abominable beauty. The Chelicerae grappling Hendred proceeds to drain Hendred of some of her magic and tries to casts lightning bolt, but is counter-spelled by Hans, the other Chelicerae focus their attention on Gareth and Del Varis, downing Gareth and landing several claws on Del Varis. Oneiro continues to Fire and banishes the Chelicerae that grappled Hendred, Hendred moves to heal Gareth, Hans fires off more eldritich blasts and moves the Chelicerae away some more. The party manages to kill one of the Chelicerae but the other two continue their attack, inflicting more damage on Del Varis, Tia decides to fly down to heal Del Varis and is successful but gets grappled by one of the Chelicerae. The party continues their attack, Del Varis neutralizes the poison going through Tia, the Chelicerae that grappled Tia drains her of some spells in a last ditch effort to cast lightning bolt but is counter-spelled by Hans. The party finishes of the last of their enemies and begin to inspect the impact area.
The party spends an hour at the site, Runsha manages to bash of about 500 pounds of meteor with Oneiro help while Tia makes a crude map detailing how to get to the site. The rest of the party either short rests or investigates the meteor to discern its properties, they realize it can be used in the crafting of magical equipment. The party attempts to rest longer but a few hear some growls and decide that discretion is the better part of valor and makes a quick departure, successfully losing anything that might of followed. The party returns to the village and begins to make preparations for the night, Runsha brings 400 pounds of meteor rock to the dwarf, the dwarf says he can only give him 6000 GP for it but Runsha only takes 3000 GP and says to give the other 3000 GP to Sirlith, The wise as a offering, Runsha then gets a room at the inn (at a inflated price due to royal taxation). Hans talks to the local ringmage dwarf and asks if he knows anything about demons. the dwarf doesn't know anything about that so Hans asks about the state of village. the dwarf explains that essentially the village has fallen on hard times, steeper taxes and many skilled and smart people leaving to go find work elsewhere, he mentions hearing about a project in the Crystal Bay that's been attracting workers but doesn't know what for. Hans thanks him and goes to talk to some of the people loading up their carts, they say the same thing about the village and they're looking for work outside the province. Hans offers to watch their home, this takes them off guard, but Hans convinces them of his sincerity so they accept his offer. Hans lets the party know they have a free place to sleep. Oneiro buys several drinks for the tavern patrons and Del Varis sits by the fountain and begins to write. The party rests and continues on to Aramore.
Several days later the party runs into some ruffians on the road, the sorcerer states they've been waiting for the party. The group moves forward in a tactical manner being covered with magical and arrow fire, this cause the assassin to fall down the side of a hill and the sorcerer to take heavy damage. they realize they are outmatched and the three assailants teleport away, they party continues on until they're just outside Aramore.
