Chief of Investigations

The Chief of Investigations, also known by some as the Imperial Investigator, is the leader of the Investigative Office of Empress Haliyesan's Army. Tasked with leading the Army's investigative team, the Chief mainly organises and leads investigations into nobles and officials within the Hurani Empire to uncover any plots against the imperial family or its interests.

Requirements

Any individual who holds the rank of Chief of Investigations, as with any who hold a senior position within the Empress' Army, must be a member of House Nerimi, Empress Haliyesan's birth family. The reasoning behind this is to ensure the Army's absolute loyalty to the Empress above all others, including the imperial family and even the Emperor himself.

Appointment

Unlike most military and governmental positions, ranks within the Empress' Army are directly conferred by the Empress alone, with no room for promotion or change. The position of Chief of Investigations is no different; the appointment is entirely up to Empress Haliyesan's discretion, and she has selected her favourite cousin for the role from the very first day of the Army's formation.

Responsibilities

The duties of the office take the Imperial Investigator across all of the Empire. Aside from organising and managing the rest of the Investigative Office, the Investigator also maintains contacts within the Empress' spy network to keep track of the activities of various targets of interest. Upon receiving any information about suspicious activity, an official case file must be opened and the targets then investigated to collect evidence. The Investigator is responsible for managing all aspects of high-profile cases, both active and inactive ones.

Current holder

The position of Imperial Investigator is currently held by the cousin closest to Empress Haliyesan. Having grown up with her in Anaram, the two of them spent their younger years carrying the burdens of House Nerimi and devoting themselves entirely to the family's betterment in place of their more carefree relatives. They bonded over their shared sense of responsibility and lack of freedom, a friendship that lasted even past Haliyesan becoming Empress and the changes that followed. The Empress' confidence in her cousin's intellect, perception, and investigative ability then led her to bestow the title of Chief with no hesitation. Currently, the Imperial Investigator acts as the Empress' right hand when it comes to checking the power of the Empire's nobility and, most recently, quelling treasonous plots in vassal nations.
