Garden of Freyalise

The Garden of Freyalise is a massive ancient forest to the west of Castemora. It is the home of the nomadic elven clans, the fey, and the spirits of the wilds. These groups manage the beasts and magics of the Garden as the Circle of Freyalise. Some of the Devotary of Wisdom claim that the Garden houses gateways to theFeywild, but these claims have never been substantiated.

Geography

The Garden of Freyalise is a massive temperate forest of old growth trees. Glacial runoff from the Slopes of Kalor feeds into the Emerald Lake in the northeastern portion of the forest. This lake has several rivers and streams that provide water to the rest of the Garden, and some of which run through the fields of Mercadia to the Edmurian Sea.
The farther west into the Garden, the larger the trees become. Explorers that have made it to the ancient elven cities describe them as fitting in the branches of a single tree. Although these trees are deciduous, there are no seasons in the Garden. Summer lasts eternal here, and with that comes humidity, storms, and long stretches of high temperatures. Whether this phenomena is of elven, fey, or treefolk origin is unknown to the scholars of the Church of Aurelia .

Fauna & Flora

The flora of the Garden consists mainly of the Redwoods and the ferns that make up most of the forest. Towards the borders with Mercadia, the trees consist more of oak and maple trees with wildflowers on the ground. Farther north, the foothills of the Slopes of Kalor are dotted with aspens and pine with moss taking hold in the rock. The treescape changes to baobabs and scrub along the southern border- fitting for the desert environment.
The fauna of the Garden vary nearly as much as the flora. In the heart of the forest elk, wolves, bears, giant spiders, nymphs, dryads and treefolk make their home. To the south hyenas, lions, giant scorpions, djinn, and blue dragons wander among the wastes. In the foothills to the north giant eagles, mountain goats, giants, and dragons of several colors live.
This is by no means an exhaustive list of what can be encountered in the wilds of the Garden- it is just the knowledge that the church has obtained.

Natural Resources

The wood of nymphs and treefolk are highly coveted magical items. The redwood trees provide the best building material in all of Mercadia. Dragon scales and the water from a nymph's pond. There are limitless opportunities for resources inside the Garden, but the Circle guards them carefully and ensures mankind does not encroach too far into the forest.
