Prophecy: Out of the Graveclothes of the Ledges
After the Binding of Sestus, the Huthal dug deep in the walls of the Ledges to find food, shelter and a place to rebuild their lives.
After the first generation of Elders had died, the clans began to identify leaders from those Huthal that gained powers due to their exposure to the Wild Magic that is still entangled with the ground in many areas of the Ledges. They were affected by the magic and were gifted with the ability to see beyond the veil and into the future.
During a full moon, when the wild magic's remnants can still be seen sparking in the darkness at the bottom of the Rockside river gorge, the Elders reported hearing a single voice, straining to breathe, speak to them out of the veil:
"After a Time and a Time,
after the fall of Sestus
A short peace will come
Welcome the arms with help,
accept and mend with their balms
Many times hence, his own will prosper,
The earth will split open
once again Huthal's Strength will reappear.
His people will climb out of his graveclothes
and stride openly on the face of Merida
Facing down all who would oppose him."
Most Huthal are more concerned with the day-to-day struggle to survive and so ignore the babblings of the Elders and the prophets within the Ledges. Those Huthal that left the Ledges have long since stopped believing in the Elders connection to the veil. An old tale cooked up by an old woman at a fire in the Underneath, they say. And like most prophecies, they are vague enough to read almost anything into the lines: from the rebirth of the Huthal clans, Huthal raiders to regroup and attack the cities of Merida, to the resurrection of Sestus from underneath the slow-moving Rockside river. Some have claimed that all of this will occur during a full moon when the Wild Magic will empower both Sestus and his people.
