The Gulland Rebellion
"Wilfred Oswine, You and your family, Maelle Oswine, Edward Oswine, Prislla Oswine, and Mari Oswine, are stripped of all land and titles for your treason against our glorious emperor. We sentence you and your house to death and damn your souls to The Nine Hells where you will be tormented for all eternity. "Lord Oswine of Gulland became increasingly aggravated with the large tithes he was required to give to the Empyrean Emperor. Due to his close proximity to The Freelands he believed that if he managed to defeat the Imperial army occupying his own lands he could declare independence and succeed into The Freelands, thus protecting his realm under The Free Treaty. As the Empire was currently engaged in a prolonged war with the Giant holds in the north Lord Oswine saw this as the perfect time for his rebellion as the empire would not be able to mobilize a large number of troops. Regardless he paid a large amount of gold for 1000 Githyanki mercenaries to assist him in the conflict. Unfortunately for Lord Oswine, he was betrayed by a member of his inner court and news reached the Empyrean Emperor who came personally to crush the rebellion.
The Conflict
Prelude
Lord Oswine made preparations to gather his forces on the border of The Freelands where he would meet the Githyanki but they never arrived. The Empyrean emperor left his palace, flying to Gulland immediately upon hearing of the rebellion where he met with the local garrison
Deployment
Lord Oswine had approximately 500 troops arranged in a fairly disordered formation as they were unprepared for the attack. The Imperial troops were in a deep wedge formation, with the Emperor at its head.
Battlefield
The terrain of the battlefield favored Lord Oswine as he had camped his forces on the other side of the Emerald River, which had swelled with the rainfall from the past week making it treacherous to cross.
Conditions
Due to the heavy rainfall the ground was particularly slippery underfoot. The weather was fairly calm, with a light easterly breeze.
The Engagement
As the imperial forces advanced the two forces exchanged several vollys of arrows while the emperor hurlded lightning bolts at the rebels. As they reached the band of the river he counjoured an earthquack then struck the rebel forces with a firestorm sending theire forces into complete dissary. Walking across the surface of the river the emperor all but single handedly killed the remaining rebels and Lord Oswine was captured.
Outcome
Lord Oswine and his entire house were publically executed in The Golden City.
Aftermath
The Province of Gulland was dissolved and absorbed into its neighboring Province of Brima. Imperial tithes were increased and lords were no longer allowed to maintain their own garrisons.
