15. Aberrant Seed

Following the monster attack in the banquet hall, the heroes spoke to Leono as well as the one cleric who had tried to help. Leono was greatly appreciative of the adventurers’ actions to slay the flying horrors, and offered them stay in the luxury rooms, now that a few had suddenly become vacant.
The surviving cleric also introduced himself as Tahir, an ebony skinned and tall man who briefly told them there was some in The Holy Order of Helm who were trying to investigate the resurgence of monsters, whilst others in the Order were still down-playing the events as trivial. The other cleric who had perished during the battle was one such cleric.
Tahir also spoke to Catsby, offering tutelage to the tabaxi in the holy city, Ozerksy, for the bard had lied about how he called upon his magical powers.   The following day, the adventurers’ met up with Leono who with gratitude offered a reward for their brave actions. The tortle ended up paying significantly more, as the adventurers had found out earlier that a contraption in Leono’s gambling club which was evidently magical, so to keep quiet they pushed the tortle to pay an additional sum.

Leono added that he had spoken to one of the workers who mentioned a discussion with a farmer nearby, regarding some strange going-ons in the vicinity. The small farm was on the way to Trg, as the heroes decided to travel back now that they had no other clues to follow up regarding Gherro Novak, the missing boy.   As a group, they decided to head back and travel east of Junstol, following up the Soulguard Inquisitor and retinue, something Gilles was keen to investigate as this is where his friend had headed a month ago or so and could now be in trouble.   And so the gang of adventurers left Havenlok, and a few hours came to the farm mentioned by Leono.
They searched around and found Zahtona, a cow farmer, in a stable at the back on the property. She asked them to help her as the great cow in the stable was to give birth immediately. Zahtona mentioned the strange circumstances, as the cow was ready to calf already two months after being impregnated by her bull, which had been acting strangely and recently disappeared off to the nearby woods.
Bal’Aur decided to help and reached into the cow. He hefted the calf out, but it was beyond normal, for it had its two front legs as expected but the hind of its body tapered off into a single leg. Its lipless eyes were a rheumy purple and hard. What seemed to be a scar running from the corner of its mouth and down its chest suddenly opened up, and beneath the flap were rows and rows of teeth in a circular pattern. The lamprey mouth shivered and the monstrous calf leapt at Bal’Aur.
The combined might of the adventurers quickly defeated the horror which ended with the stable being demolished atop the monster. The adventurers were mostly unharmed apart from a few scratches, bites and bruises.   The heroes then decided to investigate the nearby woods where the bull had disappeared off to, as judging by what Zahtona had explained, it seemed it was connected to the resurgence of monsters. They expected it wouldn’t take long to sort this matter out.
