The Creation of Mesalone
In a time that existed before the very earliest memories of the very earliest creatures there were five pools of creation, and each of these pools grew and grew until they began to spill over and they were the Firstborn.
The Divine pool gave birth to the first celestials, the creatures the mortals now call gods.
The Infernal pool gave birth to the first fiends, the devils and demons that would come to rule their circles.
The Primordial pool gave birth to the first elementals, one of fire, one of earth, one of water, and one of air.
The Arcane pool gave birth to the first dragons, one of platinum and one of five colors and five heads.
The Natural pool gave birth to the first fey, four siblings whose very souls were wound with magic.
These new creatures began to create, using the magic of the pools to craft a whole world and fill it with life. But conflict began to brew between the firstborns. Gods and Elementals turned against one another, and other Firstborns took sides in the war that ensued. This is known as The Cataclysm.
The pools’ energy, no longer being used for creation, began to swell once again. But this time, feeding off the destruction and chaos of their children, the pools burst, fragmenting the world into planes. This became known as The Shattering
To avoid further catastrophe the Firstborn divided the planes amongst themselves and swore to no longer interfere with mortal lives. This is known as The Exodus and The Ascension. They retreated to their homes, and nowadays most are nothing more than deities and powers of ancient myth and legend.
