The Library
When tomes of great power come into creation whether for significant good or significant evil, many vanish before their purpose can be fulfilled or shortly there after. Most never surface again. This phenomenon has been attributed to the mysterious entity of The Library.
Records of the Librarian are varied, widespread, and often accompanied by inexplicable bouts of memory loss. Some say that there is only one Librarian, some say there are many. The appearance of the Librarian changes from story to story, from the common elf, dwarf, human, halfling, and gnome to the more exotic genasi, aarakocra, tiefling, goliath, aasimar, and dragonborn. They are said to have the skill sets of a thief, caster, and fighter. This variety and power has led many to believe that the Librarian is an ancient entity or forgotten god.
Whoever The Librarian (or Librarians), it is undisputed that their Library contains the most powerful and dangerous collection of literature, magic items, and spells to ever exist. Many have made it their life's work to seek out the Library. Some have returned claiming to have found the Library and read some of the books within, but none have ever been able to recall the exact location.
Tomes rumored to be contained within the Library include The Necronomicon, The Grimoire of Monsters, The Temporal Tome, and The Versimilitudinary.
