Dragonborn

Dragonborn (also known as Strixiki in Draconic ) are a race of draconic creatures native to Orburn who typically follow their own culture known at Draconic. After the Great Fall the Dragonborn, Lizardfolk and Kobolds were placed on the eastern side of Orburn in order to grow and start anew.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Dragonborn are humanoid creatures with some characteristics of a dragon. They maintain the same two legs, two arms and one head on a standing body. The face of a Dragonborn contains two human like eyes, a blunt dragon like snout, and two reptilian frills on their cheek and ears. Their body is covered with hard reptile like scales centered around their forearms, lower legs, feet, thighs and shoulders with a leathery skin covering the rest of their body. Most Dragonborn do not have a tail where as some select few carry the mutation that would in turn, give them a tail. Tall and heavy in stature, Dragonborn usually stand tall at 6'2" – 6'8" on average and weigh about 220–320 lbs. The feet of a Dragonborn end with three strong talon like claws with a fourth dewclaw in the back, where their hands have the same three talon like claws with a fourth thumb instead of a dewclaw. Their eyes are usually a red or goldish color in hue and it's extremely rare to see any other color of eye.

Throughout the Dragonborn community, plenty of different colors and hues can be observed. Typically, the more colorful and 'dragonlike' a Dragonborn is, the more likely they are to carry the ability to have a breath weapon. Breath weapons, are a unique ability that not all Dragonborns possess and those that do are typically held in higher regard then those that don't. Their scales and leathery hide help protect them from the same elemental attacks in which they breath. For those that do not have a breath weapon though, their own scales are usually resistant to the same elements of that in which their parents breath. It is possible that a long line of non-elemental Dragonborn can produce an offspring that has no resistances whatsoever and are the most fragile of the whole community.

Commonly mistaken as reptiles, the Dragonborn are not coldblooded and instead, are warm-blooded creatures that tend to have a body temperature that is warmer than most other races. To a human, they can be almost feverish to the touch, and therefore are able to live almost anywhere. If they get too hot, the Dragonborn can use their lack of hair and large mouth to quickly displace heat to keep them comfortable in even the hottest places in the land.

Culture

The Dragonborn's created culture is called Draconic, though it is known that Dragonborn also live within the Elvish, Orcish, and Gnomish cultures as well.

Biological Traits

For the most part, males are typically taller and bulkier then females, though their scale colors have no gender changes. A male Dragonborn will typically stand between 6'4 and 6'8 while and female may stand anywhere between 6'2 to 6'6. When it comes to weight, females are usually build slimmer than males and have a more curved body. Males can weigh on average from 240 to 320 pounds while females typically only weigh 220 to 300 lbs. However, it isn't entirely impossible for a Dragonborn to be a large female or a smaller male either.

Genetics and Reproduction

Inter-species Compatibility
When it comes to Dragonborn and who they are able to have offspring with, one should keep in mind that magic can often change the compatibility and outcome. For the most part though, without magic to interfere, there aren't many races that Dragonborn are able to conceive with. Along with their own species of Dragonborn, they can also conceive with the following species:
Celestial
Fey
Fiend
Genie
Kobolds
Lizardfolk
Yuan-ti

Gestation Period and Offspring Number
From the time of conception, the Dragonborn remain in ovoviviparity (the amount of time an egg is incubated inside the mother) for about 2 1/2 months. Once the egg itself is laid, it remains in incubation for another 2 1/2 months before the egg finally hatches into a hatchling Dragonborn. Dragonborns are the only known species that nurse their young after they are born and usually do so for about 2 months after they are hatched. Typically, Dragonborn will have between 1 - 3 offspring at a time, though in very rare cases, they can have up to 5.

Sexual Views
For the most part, Dragonborns are not particularly sensual creatures and don't have any specific views on mates or sexual tendencies. However, they are known to be rather robust and strong, these characteristics tending to show up in their bedroom.

Ecology and Habitats

Because of their bodies and how well they can handle different types of weather, the Dragonborn have no real qualms about where they live. Many Dragonborn can be found living all over the country. However, they tend to gather in the Wetlands, and they live in close communities with their Lizardfolk counterparts. Some Dragonborn however, do choose to live in the Cold Desert as well.

Dietary Needs and Habits

For the most part, the Dragonborn tend to eat the same things as humans and don't particularly have any major dietary needs. However, being carnivorous, they do tend to eat more meat than most other races. Their young start out being nursed before moving to soft and mushy foods and finally learning to eat larger and tougher meats which end up being most of their diet.

Biological Cycle

Throughout the year, the scales of the Dragonborn can be seen molting every now and then. Being as scales only cover a portion of their body, only patches of skin will molt at a time and usually peals off easily without any issue or concern.

Additional Information

Social Structure

Geographic Origin and Distribution

Being a very dominate species, the Dragonborn are spread out quite well over three different territories. Though they live within the territories along with several different races and cultures, the Dragonborn control the Capital of all those areas. They can always be found in the Kamamaji Empire, Kingdom of Fjeve, and the Honanbu Protectorate though due to their political advantage in Kamamaji, that is where they typically stay.

Naming Traditions

At birth, Dragonborn are given personal names, however they typically put their clan names first as a mark of honor to their family. When they are children, they are usually given a childhood name or nickname which is used among their family as a term of endearment or description. The nickname itself usually is a recollection of an event or a habit that the Dragonborn caries.

Ideals

History

Not long after the time of the Great Fall, the Dragonborn were nearly extinct, only the hardiest of the race able to survive the God's battles. With very few left, Chauntea took it upon herself to gather not only the remaining Dragonborn but also the Lizarfolk and Kobolds in hopes that their similarities would allow them all to grow and prosper.
