[Boern Stoneclaw speaks about his adventuring origins and earlier life]
“I do not know much about my parents besides how poor and desperate they were when I was born. They had made a deal with an old sage that lived a day or so from their village in a large old mansion. they agreed to let the sage conduct experiments on me for a large amount of gold (for a farmer at least). My parents did however not want me when I had grown old enough to return. So Instead I stayed at the mansion. The sage was nice to me there and helped me reverse most of the negative effects of the experiments. However he disappeared one day and never came back. All he left me was a note with a question and that he would return soon (which he never did). So during my teenage years I lived alone in the mansion, by a pure accident I discovered a hidden door that led to a hidden library with all sorts of knowledge. For many years I tried to find the answers to my many questions in those books but most importantly the question he had given me. Just a couple of years ago I decided that I needed to find knowledge elsewhere in the world and headed out on the hunt for more knowledge. As I traveled I encountered these foul beasts, these unnatural monsters. This is the reason why I turned to the Druidic arts, to bring back the order and beauty of nature again and rid it of these disgusting beasts and monsters. When I was a child and had to buy food and supplies from the village people always acted strange around me and thought of me as that weird experiment child. Now as an adult I feel like I get similar looks but more because of my relationship to nature and my lack of knowledge of the commoners life and living. As my adventure led me to the small village of Vernan I would meet my now closest friends. Brewheart the 3rd who called himself the protector of Vernan helped me a lot in those early days. Mentoring me into the basics of fighting, in the skills of survival and taught me good morals. The other two close friends I met at the tavern, the Blind Blindwhale. My new friends’ names were Gauttrek and Odette Delapearl. We had all been tasked with the same quest but from different folks, to kill the local gang leader that terrorized the village of Vernan. We never did manage to kill him but I managed to gauche his left eye out. He swore he would take revenge on me but I do not know if I will even meet him again. However, even though the mission was not a success a trust was established between us and from then on, we helped each other on many small quests and missions commissioned by the townsfol to hear about a rumor in town. Apparently, a cult of some kind had been attacking traders and travelers along the mountain trails a couple of days' travel away.
Gauttrek had heard the same k and travelers. We weren’t perhaps friends yet but good colleagues. After months of helping the locals at Vernan, often together with my new found friends, I beganrumor and decided to join me. Odette however had already some quests to take care of in town, she also had her son with her, he would probably not handle the mountain travel that well. For days we searched the trail for any clues of the cult's whereabouts. Well, we didn’t have to search for long as they would come to us. A surprise attack during the night after I managed to fall asleep during my watch. We both were taken hostages inside their camp in the mountain, hidden behind an illusionary wall. They seemed to worship some kind of dragon, at the look of things. Their leader seemed to take a liking to me after a while when he discovered my known ledge of the magical structure of nature itself. He moved me to his private chamber higher up the mountain. There he revealed his true form, a young silver dragon! For 3 months I was stuck up there with him, forced to have sophisticated discussions about nature. If I wasn’t engaged or interested in the conversation anymore he would physically hurt me. I still hate dragons to this day. But then one night, to my rescue , there they were; Odette and Gauttrek. A great battle took place but we were no match against the silver dragon. But then to all our surprise he returned to his humanoid form, revealing that he was Odette’s long lost husband and he had great plans for their son (that explains his odd looks). Apparently all this was part of his plan to kidnap their son from her. He returned to dragon form and flew towards Vernan. After we had fled from the rest of the cult and finally returned to the town her son was nowhere to be seen. After these events we were closer than ever before, an inseparable team. As we traveled the northern realms together we began hearing about this new frontier, a place of great treasures, peace and prosperity. This was exactly what I had been searching for and it seemed to be true for the others as well. A way for us to start anew, for Odette to search for information about her son and for me to finally be able to answer the sage’s question.Boern Stoneclaw, 86 AoR
