Mezani Prime Enter the Exclusion Zone

Welcome to the world of Mezani Prime, and the writing project surrounding it known as Exclusion's Voice.
Mezani Prime
Located in the "Distal Rim" of the Milky Way Galaxy, near the end of the Perseus Arm, over 75,000 light years from Earth is a small star. Its official designation of AZ-422-C, but the few who know of it simply call it "Mezani".
Orbiting this small star, much like our sun in miniature, are three planets, the closest of which is Mezani Prime, our setting.
Once, Mezani Prime was a small commercial colony that made what little wealth it had by mining boracite and manufacturing synthetic opal, funded by various corporations, and supplied by trade with the rest of the galaxy.
In the 2822, however, a star approximately 80 lightyears away went supernova, and while the Mezani System survived relatively unscathed, the expulsion of subatomic particles and energy from the supernova, later known as the "Exclusion Event", created a semi-temporary exclusion zone around its point of origin.
Within this exclusion zone, estimated to last a total of 170 years, current faster-than-light travel and communication are impossible. Unfortunately, the Mezani System is encompassed by the exclusion zone, roughly 40 lightyears from the nearest edge.
Thus, it is now cut off; from supplies, from communication, from everything, unable to even call for help.
Exclusion's Voice
The real focus of this project is not actually the development of Mezani Prime, though that is important. It is, in fact, telling the story with the (current working) title of Exclusion's Voice.Now completely cut off from the rest of the galaxy, the small population of Mezani Prime must find a way to survive, relying entirely on what they have and what they can do.
Born a little over twenty years after the Exclusion Event into this ongoing struggle for survival are the Orion Twins, two orphans with a strong and complex bond, and who complement each other perfectly.
Every day is a struggle for survival, and the separation into opposing factions threatens Mezani Prime possibly more than the lack of resources, but perspectives begin to change when the Orion Twins make a discovery that could just mean not just their survival, but their salvation...
