Myth-Spirits

A species of magical beings, usually invisible to the normal human eye, that populate the four Realms. Each myth-spirit is different, with even same or similarly categorized spirits having different appearances and slightly different abilities. No myth-spirit is humanoid; they’re only quasi-physical at most, with appearances varying between mostly amorphous to animalistic.

Mythborn

Myth-spirits have been around, it’s usually said, since the beginning of the world; before the first recorded cycle. However, their capabilities to affect the Realms is relatively limited—typically confined to localized phenomena in their Realm; sometimes barely even that. To get around this, many myth-spirits choose to bond with human spirits, which allows them—through their human bond—to affect the Realms in a greater capacity. The result of this bonding is the human being born as a Mythborn. Though this bond occurs at/before the human’s birth, the human child looks completely normal until about four years of age, at which points their physical characteristics begin to reflect their bonded myth-spirit’s.

Naming Traditions

Myth-spirit names are mostly unknown to humanity, but some humans have managed to learn some myth-spirit names. All known names seem to be in an ancient language long lost or morphed beyond recognition to humanity, but some names still do sound vaguely similar to some known human languages.
