Jomsborg
Another rumored bastion, Jomsborg is, of course, the lost home of the old mercenary company, the Jomsvikings, located somewhere on the southern coast of the Baltic Sea – some say on an island in the Oder river. The fortress has a harbor which could be shut by iron gate, and was protected by a stone tower. The Jomsvikings lived by a strict code, but nonetheless fought for whoever could afford them. The fortress was destroyed and its inhabitants were killed by the forced of Magnus I of Norway in 1043. The tale tells that a descendant of one of the Jomsvikings, perhaps Thorkell the Tall or even Palnatoki, had a premonition about Ragnarok, rebuilt the fortress, and re-peopled it with stout, disciplined men.
