Legendary Items

Legendary items are those crafted by dwarves or cultivated by the gods for the exclusive use of kings and heroes and, of course, the gods themselves. These storied items were lost or stolen in the melee of Ragnarok, or have else found their way to the hordes of rising warlords and unseemly hermits who have spent their lives rummaging through graveyards and refuse. For a player to wield the most powerful of them, they must be wrested from the gods' own hands. Even if an item’s identification is not known exactly, their quality is instantly recognizable – even the most simple among them have an aura of great power.   Legendary items have unique properties or abilities, and the discovery or claiming of an artifact leads to great renown.   Legendary items can be salvaged in a dwarven forge to yield an extremely precious magical dust called hvergelmirdust. Hvergelmir is the well from which all cold rivers – including the Gjoll – flow. It is the magic, concentrated at this well that gives these items their unique strength and powers. In practice, using a unit of hvergelmirdust replaces the entire gjölldust cost of an enchantment.   There are four categories of legendary items – godly, heroic, dwarven, and witchcraft. Divine items are those owned and/or used by the gods. Heroic items are those forged for heroes and villains, often commissioned at behest of the gods but in lesser quality than their own armament. Dwarven items are those skillfully made by dwarves in their free time to exercise their own creativity. Witchcraft items are those used by all manner of traditional magicians.
