Sheetstone

Nothing disturbs me more than the fact we lived for centuries without Sheetstone. It is practical, easier to carry and cheaper to make than clay tablets. How come nobody came across it sooner?
Frill Rosebush Wakeanborn, Mud dragon Purveyor of the Wheel tribe   On a first glance, Sheetstone appears almost as a normal stone material yet its characteristics are very different. Discovered in 49 Wakean 876 by a female Mud dragon Purveyor and explorer, this rock was for the longest time believed to be completely useless as most only measured by its characteristics for warfare or building purposes. It slowly becomes more common as a surface area for writing documents and sharing information.

Properties

Material Characteristics

Blue tinted rock that briefly shimmers in places where it is freshly cut.

Physical & Chemical Properties

It is extremely pliable but keeps its form intact unless great strength or sharp object is applied on its surface. This allows it to be cut into thin layers and be used as a surface area for writing documents. It is heat and cold resistant and absorbs both.

Compounds

Further experiments with Sheetstone are still being conducted by the Wheel tribe. It is not known if it can be utilized for anything else.

Geology & Geography

Can be found all throughout the mountainous areas of the North and East side of the continent. It is believed Fire dragons carved their lairs inside Sheetstone veins, so they possibly have the greatest supply of it.

Life & Expiration

Frequent folding or heavy pressure can over the time of several years de-stabilize the material and make it break. When handled carefully, it could potentially last forever

History & Usage

History

Formerly known as Shystone and discovered first by the first Fire dragons as they settled in north-west of the Continent. It was used by them instead of clay pottery for simple food and water containers. As a result, most of this resource was ignored and simply carved out to make space for new draconic lairs instead.   Recently re-discovered and experimented with 49th Wakean 876 by a female Mud dragon Purveyor and explorer, this resource was quickly adapted into the Mud dragon society and from them the other creatures of Midrast Wain quickly took over. Despite the fact it was known for a long time, only recently it was discovered as the best material to write on. New texts with Sheetstone already appear all throughout the Continent and quickly become cheaper to acquire and to manufacture.

Everyday use

Material to write on with claws or sharpened stone.

Cultural Significance and Usage

Refinement

Wheel tribe is continuously attempting to refine its methods of creating as thin sheets as possible. Sheetstone used to be carved out manually with claws but recently a better method was discovered in 880 using sharpened clay or stone discs to carve more symmetrical sheets of Sheetstone.

Hazards

Care must be taken when handling Sheetstone near flammable objects, it is advised to keep it hidden from direct sunlight for extended periods of time as it can heat up to extreme temperatures and become a fire hazard or burn one's paw.

Distribution

Trade & Market

Currently the primary distributors are Mud dragons, specifically the Wheel tribe but other, smaller distributors amongst Fire dragons and Mud dragons are attempting to imitate their success. Many other species trade this material with the Wheel tribe in exchange for the finished product or for other items they need.

Storage

Generally should be stored in any area hidden from a source of heat or cold.
