The Sunguard
As worshippers of Melora and protectors of Aestradolia (the great tree), the Sunguard act as soldiers and scholars alike. While there are several specialized branches of the Sunguard, the primary goal of the monastic order is to protect the Great Tree and what it represents. Aestradolia is believed to be the final resting place of a nature domain demigod whom the Blightslayers (a anti-religious organization) captured during The Collapse of the Sodality and tortured.
Structure
The order is led by Pembrin Marsithell, a stoic and soft spoken elven man of great wisdom. He makes an effort to be seen amongst his followers. Beneath him are the Lore Masters of the Sunguard. The Lore Keepers protect the ancient knowledge of the order. Following the Lore Keepers are the Sunguard Archeologists and Anthropologists. It is the duty of the Archeologists to recover ancient knowledge from the many ruins of Costrana and keep it protected where it will be most valued. The Anthropologists act as spies, diplomats and negotiators. At the same level of command are the Sunguard Legionaries, who train in the arts of combat, stealth and subterfuge. There are other lower ranks as well, such as the teachers, students, recruits and apprentices.
Culture
Originating from Thae Aleeri, the Sunguard adopted some of the same beliefs as them, but rejected others. The Thae Aleeri people are mostly pacifists. While peace is preferred by the Sunguard, they understand that when peace isn't an option, sometimes force is. They are foreign to most, and are rarely seen publicly on the eastern side of Costrana, except as spies.
In 989, a sect of the Sunguard became corrupted by a young recruit named Winnet Lilithi . She believed that it was the duty of the Sunguard to raise their fallen demigod and restore his power. She left in search of the Blightslayer crypts and forgotten knowledge but has not been seen since.
