Inferno Pepper
It'll burn a hole right through your throat...
Augggh!! I'm burning from the inside! My blood is thickening and I can feel my heart going into overdrive! This is the way it ends... -A young man's words hours after trying a tiny bite of an Inferno PepperThe Inferno Pepper grows naturally on the peaks of Wyrmington's highest mountains. It resembles any other ordinary chili pepper by looks. But one must not be mistaken. The Inferno Pepper is the hottest pepper between the two worlds. Enjoyers of spicy food describe the experience to be quite similar to pouring smoldering coals down your throat. The pepper was discovered by the famous chef, Asmodeus Dermitis in the year 963. This was during the time when the people of Wyrmington first began exploring the entirety of their land. The mountains were a daunting geographical formation. Travelling over them to get past was a death wish for most, avalanches cascading down often and hostile Modok hunting groups patrolling the barren peaks. Eventually Asmodeus passed the mountains, picking up valuable ingredients as he went. One of these was the Inferno Pepper. When he tried one, he described the burning being unbareable and long, lingerng in his mouth for days. The pepper evolved to have this effect in order to not be eaten by the fauna of its habitat.
It's Consumption
The Inferno Pepper was quickly publicized as the hottest in the world. The seeds of the pepper were planted closer to society on farms and sold in the markets. They had to be guarded carefully, a the birds loved the new peppers. They swallowed rather than chewed the peppers and so the spice had no effect on them. At the beginning of the warm season, hundreds of birds swooped down in order to devour them. Other wildlife quickly learned to avoid the peppers due to their unpleasant effects. The peppers began being used in prank products, such as gum that appeared to be refreshing mint flavored, but actually contained the extract of the Inferno Pepper. Things like this could often greatly harm the victims and sometimes, on rare occasions, even kill them. This pepper is also a fitting seasoning for the meals of many travelling heroes who wanted the thrill and thought the spice would not be too bad (it is).
