Peace of Separation

At the end of the Cataclysm, when the portals between the divine realms and the world of Mikdash were sealed, a great lull extended over the world. It was as if, after 100 years of violence, the planet itself exhaled slowly and completely.
The Melothian Empire was in tatters, and its chief rival, the Zindushur Theocracy, found itself isolated in its northern holds. The remaining mortals found themselves in an unfamiliar position: they could find their own paths in the world without risk of direct intervention by the gods or their mortal proxies.
