Dyson Swarm
A Dyson Swarm is a megastructure consisting of thousands of energy-gathering satellites orbiting a star. The name comes from a 20th century CE Human scientist who proposed such a project. The satellites of a Dyson Swarm use solar energy collectors to capture part of the output of a star, and transmit it to collection stations via wireless energy transfer. From there, the energy is either stored in batteries or transmitted to further stations or planets. The decentralised nature of Dyson Swarms allows them to be built at a relatively low initial cost, and scaled up as resources permit. As the collector satellites are self-powering, the only upkeep is replacement of satellites damaged by space debris or solar weather, which is fairly minimal.
