End of the Cycle

The End of the Cycle is a theorised entity that exists within the dimension of the Shroud. The majority of information regarding the End of the Cycle comes from archaeological excavations, but a small amount comes from a member of the Knights of the Toxic God who claimed to have encountered the entity. Unlike the four "shroud patrons" (the Composer of Strands, the Eater of Worlds, the Instrument of Desire, and the Whisperers in the Void), the End of the Cycle is a very withdrawn and mysterious entity. According to ancient accounts, the End of the Cycle has extremely powerful precognitive abilities: it selects its bargains far in advance, and only offers them when it deems a client civilisation "worthy".

According to researchers from the Kingdom of Yondarim, like the other Shroud patrons, the End of the Cycle was created during the conflicts of the Zroni one hundred million years ago. The Divine faction attempted to grow the supermassive black hole at the centre of the galaxy in order to destroy all life, and in response, their collective hatred created the End of the Cycle. Later archaeological evidence indicates that the End of the Cycle offers the leaders of a civilisation a bargain, rather than a covenant. It provides incredible power for half a century, and then consumes its client civilisation, before turning powerful psionic avatars on the rest of the galaxy. As of this current stage of galactic history, no civilisation has created a bargain with the End of the Cycle.
