Evacuation Drills
Evacuation Drills began in schools throughout Melzi in 2501 to prepare students for possible attacks on the school. It began shortly after the Virion Pandemic, as diseased people made threats on the facilities where they were being held or tested on. Drills typically consisted of a daily walk for all students to a designated "safe zone." Supporters lauded the addition of physical exercise to the school day, while critics argued this would only ensure that possible attacks would occur on two fronts, since enemies would also know the exact movements of students in the event of an evacuation. There were no attacks on schools, however, until 2550, when six sophomores at Foothill High were attacked with a bioweapon known as White Smoke near the Tholmarun River. This attack did not bring an end to the evacuation drills, though it did cause a brief panic in the city of Selwyn. Though the perpetrator of this attack was never found, no further attacks occurred.
