Tieflings

Tieflings are a race of planar touched humanoids, specifically touched by the lower planes. This transformation can happen to any race but primarily to humans  as they are more adaptable as a race. The corruption of the lower planes can happen in a variety of ways as there is always an originator of the tiefling bloodline. These originators can be transformed by or have their child transformed due to a pact with a devil, being cursed by a fiend, growing up near a lower plane portal, and other types of exposure to planar energy. Most tieflings are born from a human or tielfing parent but there are some born of a Cambion - a half-fiend.
While tieflings can be of any lower plane origin devil-kin (or Hellspawn) from the Nine Hells are the most common. A tiefling's appearance and magic are tied to the type of fiendish energy it was exposed to, often called bloodlines or kin. This also influences the type of innate magic the tiefling is born with. The less fiend-ish a tiefling is, the weaker their innate magic, the further from the originator they were born.

Even though tieflings are born of other races tieflings have developed a small culture of their own in areas where tieflings have lived for a long time. This culture is focused on bloodline and tracing lineage back to the originators.

Common Myths and Legends

Many tieflings die at a young age due to becoming adventurers or hostility from the people around them so it is unknown how long tiefling can truly live. There is one rumored tiefling that looked to be in his early 20s but was over 300 years old. However, he died due to a sinking ship if he has lived he might have lived over 1000 years.

Body Tint, Colouring and Marking

Any color you can imagine for their skin, hair, and eye color, though red skin is most common. Tieflings are often marked with horns and a long tail along with a non-human skin tone and eye color. Some tieflings though look completely human but with an odd feature, such as six fingers, bodily odor of sulfur, or fangs. Above all tiefling's appearance is tied to the type of planar energy the originator was exposed to.
