Dai

The Dai people live in the western half of Central Dercia and have been doing that for as long back in their history as they can remember. They live in clans and earlier in their history they would fight between the clans to assert dominance over each other. They tend to live in small villages with only around 10 houses in each, although some of the more powerful clans will have bigger villages with more sophisticated housing and layout.

Connections to the outside

The Dai people established contact with the peoples that lived in the coastal regions of Dercia and trade soon began to flourish thanks to the Dai people acting as guides for the caravans when they travelled across the central plains. Thanks to their somewhat primitive lifestyle compared to the coastal people the Ancient Empire tended to let the Dai people to themself and they managed to stay out of the chaos that followed the collapse fo the Ancient empire and it was only when the wars that would, later on, be known as the First unification war that the Dai people would be dragged into the wider politic of the region when the different sides of the war would ally themself with different Dai clans and utilize their skills in travelling the central plains.

Today

Today the Dai people are part of the Empire of Dercia but have a deal with the crown that as long as Dai keeps up their side of the deal consisting of escorting caravans and providing the coastal regions with goods that are unique to their land and in return, the crown will not interfere in their daily life and internal politic unless its to prevent conflict.
