Kalumnia signals

The Kalumnia signals are a system of flags used by naval ships, with a civilian version existing for onboard merchant ships.   The Kalumnia signal system is just the most recent development in how ships communicate over longer distances at sea. Still, it also helped in the case of a naval commander to bring out a message to the entire fleet without having to resolve to yell to the nearest ship and then hope they could hear them.   The use of the Kalumnia signals conveys important information between the ship and allows the commander to coordinate manoeuvres between the ship. Likewise, it also allowed the ships to signal if anything was wrong with them, like if they had sickness onboard, they could then raise a signal that told ships passing by to stay clear of the ship so the the sickness would not spread out of control.   Each flag in the system represents different letters or numbers. Still, the new thing the Kalumnia signal system brought with it was the standardisation of the symbols and making combinations of certain flags that combined could have a specific meaning allowing for coded messages to be sent in plain view of the enemy.   Due to the rise of the Empire of Dercia  followings its victory in The war of Western expansion that granted the Empire the undisputed hegemony of the Dercian region but also the almost unchallenged rule of the Dercian navy at sea, with only Ibraghian Theocracy being technically able to challenge the Dercians at sea but even the Theocracy followed suit and adopted the Kalumnia signals in the decades after the war.
