Kogder

In the deep forests in the Empire of Dercia , one can find a mysterious creature that lives in the trees.   Known as a Kogder, the Kogder uses vibrant colours and movements to communicate, they use bioluminescent markings that run along their body, and they can make these markings show in all sorts of colours ranging from iridescent colours to more soft pastel hues.   In the wild, the Kogder uses these colours to form large colonies in the treetops, and scholars have observed that the Kogder have the ability to form intricate social structures which make the Kogder some of the most advanced non-sentient creatures to inhabit the forests of Dercia.   Their ability to communicate using colours has made them perfect for delivering secret messages, as they can be trained to show different colours in specific patterns with some training.

Additional Information

Domestication

It's possible to domesticate the Kogder, although it's a difficult process and requires spending a lot of time with the creature so that both parties can form a bond that can then be worked upon. It gets easier once the captured adults get offspring, as the young ones will have grown up and get used to the humanoids.   The whole domestication process is a long one so its only those with great wealth that can afford to even attempt it.

Uses, Products & Exploitation

The spies that work for the Emperor know that the Kogder is being used by their political rivals to communicate but have yet not been able to decipher what messages that are being transported.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

Can be found all over the Dercian region although the largest colonies of the Kogder have been observed along the coastal forests of the region.

Ooh, I like the description of people trying to domesticate and train the kodger to send secret messages.
