Relay station

Relay stations were part of a messenger system used by most nations in Mirateia, but it found its biggest extension in the Dercian region. When the empire conquered the region, the system had been introduced to the region by the Ancient Empire . Afterwards, the city-states that emerged in the power vacuum after the empire collapsed would expand on the system to deliver critical messages between important figures of the different states.    The nations continued the system of Mirateia, and even if the period after the fall of the Ancient Empire were a period where most states were in a state of conflict with their neighbours, the relay system was considered a place of peace where no one was allowed to carry weapons inside the building, this relay system was written into law by most of the nations and even those that didn't would follow the unwritten law that existed around the relay stations.   Merchants were allowed to use the relay systems as a place to rest free of cost in most nations, while in some, they had to pay a small fee to help with the upkeep of the stations, but the spare horses were reserved for the messengers.   Over time the system would be expanded to supply military matters and civilians, such as carrying mail between cities.   Over time, some of the relay stations would evolve into small villages, with merchants setting up shops near the stations where they could sell their wares to the people passing through the stations.

Purpose / Function

The purpose of the system was to provide the messengers with food for the messengers and their horses, and there would also be spare horses so the messengers would have fresh horses for their further travel.   The system of relay stations was spread out over 200-300 kilometres at each station. This system helped speed up the process of information and news between states.

Alterations

The relay stations are build-up of local materials, so there will be alterations between each station with the building material ranging from stones to wood. However, after the Empire of Dercia took over, the buildings would slowly but steadily be standardised to have the same size and building material.

Architecture

The buildings are very simple in architecture, with the majority of them consisting of a simple structures with only one room. Some of the newer relay stations would come with two rooms, with a simple stable next to the building.
