Shard of the Sacred

The Shard of the Sacred is an immense sacred relic belonging to the Empire of Dercia, it's a large piece of crystal and it is believed by the priesthood belonging to the "Keepers of the Shard" and their temple. It is believed that the crystal shard at some point in time was given by one of the gods to the mortals.
The shard takes the appearance of a clear piece of crystal and it's roughly the size of a human hand, it has a radiant inner glow that's said to shift colour depending on the time of the day as well as the viewer. Likewise, it's said to be smooth to the touch and its natural inner workings are said to be stunning.
Ancient runes are faintly visible inside the shard, believed to be words of blessing or power from the gods.
The mortal that found the shard and after that became the high priestess of the newly founded temple, soon after the finding began to receive visions of peace and prosperity and as time moved on the shard became one of the most sacred relics in the Dercian region and during the wars of unification that ravaged the region for close to 800 years the shard was soon moved to Pearlhal as part of the spoils of war and it was installed first in a storeroom for the spoils but after some years, the shard was installed in a newly build temple and it soon gained importance only second to The Book of Mara when it comes to sacred relics and their status within the temples of the Empire.
The shard is central to many religious ceremonies and festivals. It is displayed prominently during the annual Festival of Light, where the faithful gather to celebrate the blessings of the gods.
