The Veil Tongue

Deep in the forest, there is a small lake in the middle of a clearing, the locals call the area "The Still". Because the clearing is quiet, unnaturally quiet and everything is still, its as if time has forgotten about the spot. The trees grow blackened bark and their leaves are all twisted into unnatural shapes. The weird thing is that the trees nearest the lake and around it, all have some weird symbols carved into it, these symbols seem to glow with a faint greenish colour whenever someone comes to close to the waters.
Locals, travellers and adventures who stumble upon it report an eerie and oppressive feeling that makes the hairs on their necks rise and a cold chill run down their spine.
But the most chilling part is what happens if someone lingers for too long in the clearing. Those who have experienced it all say that after a while, when the silence has begun to become unnerving, you will feel something cold and wet brush against you, some say it's just the silence and the wind that play a trick on your mind. The locals say it's something else, a tongue, slick and serpentine, sliding through the air as if it's tasting for something... or someone. When the tongue touches someone, they never see what it is, its as if it was never there in the first place.
Those who have frozen in place after the first encounter will say that they felt it touch them again but this time more insistent, like curling around their ankles, still no visible clue as to what could explain the feeling.
The smart ones leave as fast as they can, those who have felt its touch a second time are rarely seen again.
The locals have tried countless thing to get rid of the clearing but nothing seems to work and whats more disturbing for most is that even when the gods answer the prayers, they say they cant help, because they cant see the clearing.
