Waerum tradition

The tradition known as the Waerum tradition is a tradition taking place in the Castmia Province and, more precisely, in the capital of the province Hanum, it is a relatively new tradition coming into effect shortly after Prince Osril took control over the province.   Shortly after the prince took over the province, he was informed that two auxiliary cohorts had suffered almost 50% casualties in combat against a group of unknown beasts. Before the prince arrived, someone in the administration had combined the two cohorts into one cohort, which in theory, should have been at full strength, but the two cohorts could not have been more different. One of the cohorts was a heavy cohort used to fight on the frontlines with the legions, while the other was more of a rear echelon cohort used to defend the supply train and base of the larger armies.   When the prince heard of this, one of his first acts as governor of the province was to attach himself to the new cohort and get them to become an effective fighting unit over the following months, he managed to get the cohort to become an effective fighting force by instigating several incentives like what would become known as the Waerum tradition named after an old name for a prince in a local dead language.   For the soldiers, the Waerum tradition consists of a series of competitions for the individual centuria to compete in, examples of these competitions are the most effective Centuria in combat exercises and the fastest centuria during physical exercises. Some of the prizes that could be won by these centurias were an extra day off on leave or an extra ration of wine. This last price would later become known as "Osils round".   These competitions would be repeated every time two unites would be combined and would soon spread to the regular legions as well, and soon enough, it would become known as the Waerum tradition.

It's amazing how much motivation can be gained from the promise of an extra ration of wine. :D
