Faeding Vales
Geography
The lands in the sky; in the clouds far above the world below, and have its own atmospheric barrier separate from the world below. This continent have all four seasons simultaneously, but separate lands: Summer Plains, Spring Waters, Autumn Fields and Winterous Hills. The higher the land is, the more cold it is. It's as though the lands are structured as tiers with summer weather at the bottom and cold at the top.
Summer Plains
Flat grass lands with a few trees or non at all, depending on land mass. Sometimes fields of flowers and shrubs can be seen from afar. Each piece of land differing from the other.Spring Waters
These have beds of water in crater-like lands that are surrounded by grass and trees. These springs vary in temperature from hot to cool.Autumn Fields
A firey-gold sight to see, especially when the sun reflects off of them. The grass is darker and more firm underfoot.Winter Land
Permanently cold terrain of rock, hills and the only kind of trees that surive this weather: Crystal Trees or also known as Water Glass Trees.Localized Phenomena
From the Spring Water lands the streams often fall to the world below and due to the temperature change, it can be percieved as falling snow, or during very cold days, ice rain. There is one place between the world and the Faeding Vales where there is a constant waterfall. This place is known as the Heart of Reflection.
History
A Human Explorer looked at the sky as he usually did before an adventure and saw something remarkable. So much that he had to rub his eyes as if they blurred out of focus, and looked again more intently into the sunny blue and white canvas. A few clouds obscured something seemingly immobile and waited impatiently for them to pass by. As the white veil slips passed, it reveals what looks like to be rocks.
Floating rocks. In the sky.
At first he was alarmed due to the sizes of the few he saw, but realized they weren't falling down and staying in place. He could also faintly make out some structures on these rocks... or perhaps trees?. Looking through his tri-prism lenses, he observed these rocks indeed have structures on them, like buildings, and foliage.
More clouds covered the sight, causing the floating islands to seemingly disappear only to reappear again after the cloud's passing.
"Huh..." He said aloud, unable to believe what is right there in front of him. Was he truly going insane as his co-explorers said he might from his many excursions?
****
Sure enough, after seeking a second opinion from his co-explorers, even a third and forth opinion, it almost became public knowledge, these floating objects in the sky. After making a quiet pact between themselves they were to tell no one about this until after making the adventure, but with just one making the expedition. This way things will go about as normal, making new discoveries without public interference.
The only way to get up to the New World, as he called it, was through a Cerylite Gate. These gates show a reflection of where one will end up once through. Usually an Explorer will follow his or her gut, or hunches... whatever you want to call it, to discover new areas or things they might come across. In this case, the Explorers chose the one with the most Luck, and a good thing too. In a matter of a few hours, he went through a cerylite gate he hadn't seen before and went through... holding his breath as he didn't know what awaits him on the other side.
A New World
The Explorer suddenly found himself on a plain surrounded with grass, a field of flowers and some trees. Could scarcely call it a forest as the trees encircled around him as he stood with multi-coloured flowers and wild grass. He caught sight of a beast he's never seen before. It looked like a horse grazing, but yet... transparent and wispy. Like a cloud. The odd looking horse sensed a presence and charged toward the Explorer. Just as he was about to move out of the way, something else grabbed hold of him and suddenly in midair. The cloudy horse realized it was chasing nothing and went back to graze. Two armed gaurdsmen held him by his arms while in the air and before he knew it, was back down to the ground. His heart raced with what just happened. They then began questioning him, but he didn't understand at all what they were saying. Even if he could understand them, he was too fascinated at their appearance. They were like butterflies and yet still had a Human figure. One of them unsheathed his weapon and was about to attack while the Explorer backed away, however the other gaurd stopped him and said something to make him sheath his weapon. The one that ceased the attack threw a small chain at the Explorer, as instict he thought to catch it, but it wrapped itself around his hands and bound him. The two guardsmen laughed, helped him on his feet and guided him to their incognito airship.
The King
All the sights he had seen so far seemed to be a blur as the guardsmen were getting him from place to place and finally to see the King. The Explorer new right away that the man sitting in front of a table in the midst of a wide expanse was the King. What took him aback was his wings, he didn't seem to have them, but he indeed has other characteristics of the ones that do.The King gestured for the Explorer to come forward. He did so and the doors closed behind him, making him jump. The King offered him a seat across from him and the Explorer sat down. The King said a word and the chain fell from the Explorer's hands. Before he could thank him, the King passed a cup of tea to him. After some hesitation with his head held down, avoiding eye contact out of respect as he would back in his homeland, the King downed his cup and poured more for himself and said something the Explorer could only guess was to "drink". A swift look around to check his surroundings, he felt it was okay to drink as it didn't look or feel as though the King wanted him dead. So, he took the cup and drank. It didn't taste like tea, but more like candy water. It was sweet but not too sweet and like a child he wanted more. As he was looking at the pitcher of this candy water, the King pulled the pitcher away and spoke. This time he able to understand.
"How did you get here? What do you want? To what purpose are you here?" In between these questions, the King poured a little more of the candy water for the Explorer. Still evading eye contact he thought about how to answer those questions. He felt like an intruder to an extent. He didn't realize there would be a whole Kingdom here.
"I'm from Meinland and I saw something I couldn't believe at first. I thought I was going crazy, only... I wasn't -"
"Please, the point at hand, wingless one. You are from Meinland." The King didn't like those that babbled uelsess information.
"Right, apologies." The Explorer continued while gesturing, a nervous tick of speaking with his hands. "I thought I saw rocks in the sky, so I wanted to explore this... this, " words were escaping him from his complete fascination of the world he came to see. "Sky World." He accidentally made eye contact and briefly forgot his place and looked away by pretending to scratch his face.
"Hmm."
The Explorer realized the King is waiting for the other two questions and tried to bring them to remembrance. "I-I don't want anything. Only to explore new areas of the world we live in and learn about them. Back at home, we are called Explorers."
"I see."
"And really, that last question I answered in my last response. My job is only to explore and nothing more."
"And yet you failed to answer the first." The King looked more intently at the evasive Explorer and said with more emphasis, "How did you get here?"
"By cerylite gate, majesty..."
"One other thing, Explorer. Look at me when I speak to you. It is very rude to pretend that I do not exist, so look at me when I speak to you."
The Explorer immediately did as he said and apologized profusely. The King nodded, accepting his expression of regret.
The King sighed and thought long. Standing up he looked out the window which surrounds them in the room, the sea of clouds just below them.
"Of course... so it has begun. We the Fae can no longer hide from the world below, it seems." The King turned back, "Explorer, what will you call this place, in your homeland?" Stretching out his hand a detailed staff appeared and lightly tapped the floor once with it. The marble floor lit the markigs briefly and wisps of spirit magic drew a mini-map of the continent in midair. The Explorer's heart melted at the sight of such controlled spirit magic, able to materialize so vividly and exact the extent of his lands. There was much more than he originally thought.
Taking a few moments and remembering the clouds and what the King called themselves. Fae.
