Metals

Dark Iron

Overview
Ingkess is a metal that is found primarily in the Mardaikin mountains, but it can be also found in the mountains of Soranna, Ischurrai, Anosfae, and Amrzal. As a metal, it is rather rare compared to things like iron.
Name
Ingkess is the official name of the metal as designated by the trade league of Ornemere, although it has multiple other names such as Zannkess. The name Ingkess derives from Ingharai Kesen, meaning Ingharan metal; the name Zannkess is where the name "Dark-iron" or "Darksilver" comes from, and is the source of the name used in this article.
Properties
Ingkess is known primarily for its beauty, as it is a deep black or grayish black color. It is resistant to the witherance, similar to gold and silver. Large deposits of the ore are known to have properties that mess with compasses. It is said that the blade can soak in the power of each enemy defeated with it, and that blades imbued with enough power can sometimes emit a low hum when empowered by the magic of the user. Dark Iron is highly sought after for its ability to be resilient when used against things like the blight, being able to resist the decay of the curse.
Uses
Ingkess is most commonly used in weapons as the primary material for the blades, although for poorer folk it is often used for ornamentations rather than the entire blade. Ingkess is found in many ornamentations among the rich besides weapons though, such as in tools and whatnot.
The process itself of using Ingkess is difficult, with very few smiths being able to use it. The most prominent smiths able to forge the metal inhabit the city of Kesshan, with some other skilled smiths being found in Korisangtaai, Azzau, and Lusiijeanen. Overall, the use of Ingkess shows wealth among a Niranni, especially when used in combination with ebonwood.
