Achievements and Legacy

Selkai Genturin is known largely as the progenitor of republicanism on the continent of Nirann as he led a revolution to abolish the aristocratic republic of Ornemere to replace it with a true republic, going on to conquer much of the continent under the republican ideals, establishing various different states on his way. In the modern day he is seen as a symbol against oppression and outside invasion; he has become a symbol of Soranni independence against Ischurrai.
Ideology
Genturin organized his society under a new regime called the "Nirannin Lisenta," which means "The Niranni Peoples State." Genturin invaded the surrounding Niranni states to enforce his ideology of freedom of the masses, which inspired revolts in places like Anosfae and Immestrai.
Quotes
Preparing to Cross the Mountains into Korthae.
"From the plains of the north, to the vast seas of the south I have served with you. I have given my life to lead the people into freedom, a freedom that could last for an eternity if we only have the courage to perservere. We will make it to the west and a new order will be born, for you my men have the courage to go on when even strength falters; it is this courage that makes you immortal!"

History and Legend

Early Life

Childhood
Selkai Genturin was born to a poorer family of merchants on the isle of Ornemere, where he grew up helping his family work while in his free time he visited shrines and studied with the shrineworkers.
Young Adulthood
As he grew up, he eventually joined the navy where he worked his way up to be the captain of a small vessel by his early twenties. Eventually, the kingdom went to war to conquer the old capital of Koraci from the Okhotai, where Selkai served with distinction as he helped transport an army onto the island in the river where the city was and convincing the garrison to surrender with little bloodshed.

Rise to Power

The Revolution in Ornemere
Selkai rose to power when the wars with the northern states caused a vulnerability that Ataarad pirates took advantage of, raiding the home island for the first time in history. This weakness caused immense unrest at home, which Selkai took advantage of. The unrest spiraled into revolution that took over the city while Selkai and the army were still returning from their success in the north. The navy and army landed on the isle and fought to retake the city with much bloodshed. Three forces landed on the island, but one led by petty nobles switched sides and defeated another army while the last one fled back to the mainland. Rallying the people of Ornemere, Genturin led the army to the mainland where the last counter-revolutionary army had set up camp at Sorruno. Genturin and his soldiers launched a surprise night attack that won the day and allowed Genturin to quickly enforce the new regime over the rest of the kingdom.
In the months following, the country became a symbol of escape for many who sought to travel there to escape serfdom. These new serfs were organized into autonomous communes and into a new army known as the Akhavene, or "Shields of the Flame." The Akhavene were first tested when the rulers of the Soranni Kingdom of Palsara invaded to restore the order. Selkai and his shields took to the field and defeated the invaders, giving the new regime legitimacy. Defeating the invasion of Palsara and seeking to counterattack and absorb the regions along the way, Genturin trained the armies of Ornemere by educating the zealous poor in magecraft and warfare the same way that Ishtari knights were trained.
