Yuuma Kuuhua

Overview

History

Early Life

Yuuma was a renowned author and poet from the golden age of the Ilsairi Ketsing, living from 523 to 604. Yuuma was born to a lowly family of farmers distantly related to the Kuuhua clan, but he demonstrated enough magical ability to be trained by a monastery located near his family village. He was trained by a local Ilwenn monastery, where he learned to read and write as well as poetry. When he turned 13 he decided to leave and return home for good. He helped out his family on the farm for the next few years until a wandering Kuuhua swordsman named Ki'a'er was passing through his village, after speaking with the swordsman, he became the apprentice of the man.

Apprentice

As an apprentice, he moved from near Tamora, over to Kaasi'mar. There he was trained as a servant to Ki'a'er and as such learned swordsmanship and the skills of a page. In his spare time, he practiced poetry in over ten different styles from the ancient Ingharan age to the modern ones he had heard from the work of his master. One night, he protected his master from a thief who intended to steal a Kuuhua clan sword that was kept in his home; he drove the thief away and as a result was formally inducted into the Kuuhua clan as a swordsman himself.

Later Life

It was in this later period in his life, that he wrote his most prolific poems such as the famed "Waters Flowing Out to Sea" about the river Gendur, "Heaven Meeting the Earth" about Mt. Felkerr, and "Bamboo Stalks" about his home village. Of all these poems, he is best remembered for a the sung poem "Notching the Arrow" about the royal army repelling the Gentari.
