Fear of the Wolf

"Mommy, Mommy." Kitty screamed, her mother rushed into her small bedroom. It was still dark outside, in Dragon lord's name it was always dark outside. "What is wrong, my sweet?" Her mother asked, and she kneeled down next to the bed. Kitty started to cry, she knew it was a bad dream. But still she was so afraid, and she felt so small. "Ooh Kitty-kat." Her mother said softly, while stroking her red hair, which was a rare hair color for vampires. "I dreamed that, that." She started to stammer. How could she explain what she just had seen. "I dreamed of a beautiful woman with fair blond hair. Just like you." She said and her mother froze. "She said that she was my grandmother." Kitty looked at her mother, who in turn looked at her with wide eyes. "The woman then turned into a wolf." "This can not be happening." Her mother whispered. "Not my daughter, please Moon Goddess. Not my sweet Kitty-kat." Kitty swallowed, her mother's words made her even more scared than she already was. "Mommy, what is happening?" Kitty asked, with a small voice. Her mother sighed and closed her eyes for a short moment. "What I am going to tell you, need to stay between use two." Her mother said softly, Kitty nodded. She didn't know why but something in her told her that this was important. "Our female bloodline is cursed by the Moon Goddess." "But the Moon Goddess blessed the Vampires with the land of everlasting night." Kitty said and her mother nodded. "That is true. But our ancestor, thought that was not enough. And demanded more from the Goddess. Which is always a mistake, never ask more than you are already given." Her mother said and Kitty nodded. The Gods were generous in their gifts, and really can not stand it if people are asking more. "So the Moon Goddess trapped our ancestor in the body of a wolf. She could change between the bodies of a vampire and that of a wolf. At first, she thought it was a gift, but then quickly changed her tone when her own kind started to hunt her down. Fearing her wolf body, fearing that her punishment will become theirs. So our ancestor hid her wolf form, but was forced to turn every full moon. The rest of our kind again hunted her down. Still she was lucky to stay out of their grasps. She got a daughter and her condition, passed down to her. And so down the line to your grandmother. It skipped a generation with me, and my mother called that a blessing, hoping that the curse was broken. But now I fear that the curse has landed on your shoulders." Kitty looked at her mother. "Will I be hunted down like an animal?" She asked and her mother nodded. "Not much has changed, since the days of our ancestor. But do not worry, there is a village, on the border. Where the rest of werewolves are living, I lived there too. Until it became clear I was not like the others." Her mother said. Kitty felt sick, was her mother saying what she thought she was saying? "You need to pack your bags." "Mommy, I do not want to go. I want to stay with you and Daddy." Kitty whined. Her mother's eyes filled with tears. "I know, Kitty-kat. But you are no longer safe if you stay here." Her mother replied. Her mother walked out of the room, and the next day Kitty left her home. With the woman of her dream. She never got a chance to say goodbye to her father, or to her older brother. She wondered what her mother would tell them, will she tell them the truth, or will she tell a lie. "Serevina?" A woman's voice said to her grandmother. Kitty looked at the woman. "Where are you going with the child?" "She has Lycantropy." Her grandmother said, there was a sharp edge in her voice. "Your spell, only worked on my daughter." The woman bowed her head slightly. "I am sorry." The woman said, and she nodded to Kitty. "Have a safe journey Kitty Howl."
