Qualifications

A Siren, needs to be male. It is one of the gender roles inside Aupunimalalo. The women are the leaders and the men are the protectors.
The man need to have a strong magical ability. This is needed to keep the wards up.

Career Progression

There are a few steps to become a full Wardener. Everybody starts out as an apprentice, under a full Wardener. This process can take a couple of years, or just a few weeks.

Payment & Reimbursement

Because the Sirens live off the grid and are not aware of the economic norms of the world above the water. They do not believe in payment, everything they need is build with their own hands or free given.
The job of Wardener is not any different, men do this job to keep their families safe. That is motivation enough.

There are no real benefits to this job, it needs to be done to keep everyone you love safe. Save from sharks, giant squids and underwater gremlins.

Purpose

The whole purpose of the Wardener is to keep the Sirens inside the city safe. And to give the Siren guard another task, then to guard the city.

Social Status

A Wardener as a protector is a highly regarded siren. Not as high as the Guard or the Matriarch's but they are not at the bottom of the heap either.

Demographics

The wards are found 25 meters outside the city. That means that the Wardener needs to swim before he reaches one of his posts. The ward has fifty post all around the city.

History

First there were no wards up to protect the city, the Siren guard swum around the city to protect it from sharks, giant squids and underwater gremlins. But that all changed when the Naiades left the city, which slimmed the guard down. The Matriarchs of the city needed to find another solution to protect the city. They came with the idea of the ward, and so the ward was created and the profession of the Wardener was born.

The Wardener needs his magic to strengthen the ward, this needs to happen every day. Otherwise, the ward weakens disappears. It takes a lot of magic to bring the ward back up.

Workplace

There are fifty ward post that are used to center the ward. Those stand 25 meters of the city.

Dangers & Hazards

There is of course the danger of sharks and giant squids swimming around the ward posts. A Wardener is trained to fight those creatures, or in the case of a giant squid, the means to call for help. The underwater gremlins are not a danger, they are just a pest.
