Ashes of the End
Summary
It is said among scholars and seers that one day, Lady Merthicz will bring about the end of the world. Numerous theories circulate regarding how this cataclysm might unfold, each more intriguing and terrifying than the last. Some predict a torrential rain of fire, others speak of a great deluge, but there is a common consensus that the catalyst will be something profoundly detrimental to the planet's well-being. A prevailing belief among the more scientifically inclined is that the unchecked and relentless advancement of technology will ultimately lead to this apocalyptic event. As humanity pushes the boundaries of innovation without regard for the natural world, it is thought that our technological triumphs will backfire disastrously, setting the stage for Lady Merthicz to fulfill her grim prophecy.
Historical Basis
As far as any scholar can tell, there isn’t any sort of historical basis for it. It doesn’t really make sense why someone like Merthicz would destroy the environment just to stop the advancement of tech if it was a concern to the environment. Many minor cults and small religions claim that she had in fact done something similar before, long before the ivierae immigrated to Mirthae. But scholars believe it to just be a myth as they believe the planet didn’t exist long before the ivierae’s arrival.
Spread
It’s widely believed. Most people, regardless of their beliefs and opinions on Merthicz, believe that she’ll eventually end society as they know it.
Cultural Reception
It’s very important in society, with quite a few religious cults popping up predicting the end of days, as well as harassing people trying to invent new technology. In general, people have become rather suspicious of new tech, even to the point where they’ll refuse help if need be just to avoid incurring Merthicz’ wrath.
In Literature
There’s a number of books, both fiction and non fiction, and poetry either dedicated to the myth or featuring it as a plot point.
In Art
Many religious pieces love to depict the end of days, leading to a gothic trend in some cultures.
